Clinical and technological capabilities of the laboratory:

The laboratory at it’s disposition all the modern equipment necessary for carrying out of any kind of bacteriological research for the identification of more than 300 species of bacteria and fungi and the determination of susceptibility to antimicrobial agents.

Main research areas of the laboratory:

    • Control of nosocomial infections in obstetrics, gynecology and perinatology
    • Assessment and forecast of epidemiological situations in the neonatal intensive care units and prevention of nosocomial outbreaks of septic infection, based on microbiological criteria
    • Microbiological monitoring of group B streptococci and the prevention of early neonatal sepsis
    • Etiological importance of multidrug-resistant strains of nefermentiruschih in obstetrics, gynecology and neonatal intensive care units
    • The problem of safety in clinical microbiology laboratories, with the participation in the identification of bioterrorist attacks.

    Information resources:

The laboratory has collection of clinical laboratory strains of the most important species of microorganisms, created during the 1999 - 2005 period which is constantly being updated. At the moment it consists of over 500 cultures.
