Bridge to the University of Cambridge

Bridge to the University of Cambridge The First MSMU representatives (Dr. D. Butnaru, the head of the Institute for Regenerative Medicine and Mr. N. Sushentsev, the Coordinator for the Research Career Center) visited the University of Cambridge on 28-30 November, 2016.

The academic mobility programs, the Multidisciplinary centre for clinical and medical research and the International School of Personalized & Translational Medicine (Strategic Academic Unit 2 in the Project 5-100) have reached Cambridge.
Within these 3 days a number of meetings were held on the platform at Cambridge University:
1.    The Gurdon Institute
The general purpose of the visit to The Gurdon Institute was a talk to Dr. Meritxell Huch, the Head of the Research Field “Stem cells and tissue regeneration in liver and pancreas” about a possibility of the scientific cooperation with the Regenerative liver& pancreatic surgery department of the Institute for Regenerative Medicine I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical University.
2.    Cambridge Stem Cell Institute (SCI)
The Faculty members of the First MSMU met Prof. T. Green his Deputy Prof. R. Franklin of the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute. As a result, it was agreed to develop cooperation in Stem Cell  Techniques between the First MSMU and Cambridge.
3.    Department of urology, Addenbrooke’s Hospital
During the meeting with Dr. N. Thiruchelvam, the Head of Reconstructive Urologist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, a joint Cambridge-Sechenov Summer School on Reconstructive Urology was discussed.
Dr. Nikesh Thiruchelvam also invited the First MSMU students’ for a research visit to the Department of urology at the Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
4.    The Department of radiology
Dr. Zhongzhao Teng, the Senior Research Associate at Department of Radiology, who studies the influence of mechanical factors on the stability of atherosclerotic plaques, held a seminar on the latest achievements in this direction.
He was interested in visiting the First MSMU for scientific seminars and the potential joint research topics.            
5.    Dean’s Office of the School of Clinical Medicine, Cambridge University
The First MSMU representatives also met Dr. Diana Wood, the Dean of the Medical School at the University of Cambridge. After the talks, both sides confirmed their interest for sharing the best practices in academic administration.
Dr. Diana Wood’s visit to the First MSMU in spring 2017 will be the first step for building partnership.
In addition to the working meetings Dr. D. Butnaru and Mr. N. Sushentsov intensively communicated with Cambridge Medical Society.
Thus, the first visit can be regarded as a beginning of the intensive scientific and educational cooperation between the First MSMU and Cambridge University.
