Sechenov First Med students participated in the World Health Assembly at Geneva

WHA photo 1During the 68th World Health Assembly (WHA) at the World Health Organisation (WHO), which took place from the 18th till the 26th of May, a few students from I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University participated at the Assembly as delegates. Students – Rinisha Yagarajah (Malaysia), Liyu Zin Yu (Malaysia), Madhubrata Ghosh (India), Freida Faith Matty (Namibia) and Poonam Bhar (Malaysia) were delegates who were also representing Ariel Foundation International Changemakers.

The World Health Assembly is the decision-making body of WHO. It is attended by delegations from all WHO Member States and focuses on a specific health agenda prepared by the Executive Board. The main functions of the World Health Assembly are to determine the policies of the Organization, appoint the Director-General, supervise financial policies, and review and approve the proposed programme budget. At the 68th World Health Assembly many problems concerning international public health were discussed. The themes included WHO reform, non-communicable diseases, communicable diseases, access to healthcare in conflict zones like Palestine and Syria, and many more.
