New university platform for researching ecology and human health problems

On November 22, 2013 a meeting devoted to the establishment on a functional basis of the International Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of complex problems of ecology and human health was held by I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University and the International Academy of Science - Health and Ecology.

The meeting was attended by:

Dr. W. Kofler (Austria), President of the International Academy of Science - Health and Ecology, Professor of the Department of Normal Physiology First MSMU;

Members of the Academy:

Dr. Ikujiro Wakai (Japan), Professor of the Department of Human Life and Environment, Osaka Sangyo University;

Julietta U. Frey, Ph.D. (Germany-USA), Charbonnier-Professor, Professor in Neurology Medical College of Georgia, Brain & Behavior Discovery Institute, Georgia Regents University, Professor of the Department of Normal Physiology First MSMU;

Sabine Frey, Ph.D., Assistant Professor in Psychiatry, Medical College of Georgia, Brain & Behavior Discovery Institute, Georgia Regents University;

Dr. Oleg Glazachev, Professor of the Department of Normal Physiology, Dean for International students First MSMU;

Professor V. Chulkov, President of the Association "Infographical basics of functional systems";

R. Ghazaryan, professor of Moscow University of utilities, amenities and construction;

There were also present staff members of the International Office, Russian and international students of the I.M. Sechenov First MSMU.

In his opening address Professor W. Kofler noted, that thanks to the support of the University administration, a new international platform for open discussions, theoretical and applied research in the interdisciplinary field of environment and human health was created . This initiative is particularly relevant in today's increasingly growing trend of development of preventive, individualized medicine. And the development of new approaches to understanding the eco-bio-psycho-social nature of man, involving experts in various fields of scientific knowledge – teachers, engineers, biologists , environmentalists – can give a qualitative leap in the development of the theory of human health and the implementation of application projects .

Functionally the center is basing in the Department of normal physiology. And this is not by accident : the members of the IAC – W. Kofler and J. Frey are both professors of this very Department. The University maintains long-term scientific contacts with them, and problems of individual human health, prenosological diagnosis, detection and correction of stress-induced functional disorders, development of new drug-free rehabilitation technologies are the subject of scientific research of the Department staff.

As noted by Professor O. Glazachev there is good starting capacity and prospects for progress in the work of the newly created Center – results of research are regularly published in the journal "Herald of the International Academy of Sciences (Russian section)", has been established a tradition of regular multidisciplinary conferences on environment and human health problems. As an example of the implementation of joint projects prof. V. Chulkov presented a collective monograph published in English in 2013 "Antropotechnics: Norm in every living and artificial beings".
In conclusion of the meeting professor J. Frey read an inauguration lecture on “A novel concept of learning and memory formation: a new strategy to rescue and to overcome memory dysfunction?” for attending researchers and students.

To the surprise of the venerable scholar, despite the complexity of the material presented, after a lecture she had to answer a lot of questions, and students were discussing the prospects for studying the mechanisms of memory, fighting dementia, increasing the effectiveness of training and their own research projects.
